Save the game without playing any missions. Exit and edit the save file,
changing your chosen offset:

OFFSET	CHANGE TO	EFFECT
00	00-47	Choose mission. (mission 00 to 71, remember its in HEX ;)
0C	00-47	Shows mission briefing.
48	00-FF	Sets kills made by leader.
12	00-FF	Sets number of recruits.
